What is corn liquor?

Corn liquor, also known as moonshine or white lightning, is a type of homemade distilled alcohol typically made from corn mash. It has a high alcohol content, usually between 40-50%, and is illegal to produce and sell in many countries without proper licensing.

Corn liquor has a long history in the United States, dating back to the colonial era when farmers would use excess corn to make their own alcohol. It gained popularity during the Prohibition era when bootleggers would produce and sell moonshine as a way to bypass the ban on alcohol.

Moonshine is often associated with a strong, harsh taste and is typically consumed straight or used in cocktails. It is not aged like traditional whiskey or bourbon, so it does not have the smoothness and complexity that come from the aging process.

While corn liquor is still produced illegally in some parts of the country, there are also legal distilleries that produce moonshine for sale. These legal versions often have a more refined taste and are made with higher quality ingredients.
